Areas of Expertise
Anxiety and Depression
Many individuals struggle from anxiety, depression, or ruminating thoughts. My job is to use evidence based research and skills. I teach and help you understand the foundations to use Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT). This type of therapeutic intervention helps challenge distorted thoughts and over come symptoms.
Eating Disorders/Disordered Eating
Eating disorders are serious condition that can negatively impact mind and body. It often effects the relationships between self and body, as well as the relationship with loved ones. I work with individuals struggling with Anorexia Nervosa, Binge Eating, Bulimia Nervosa, ARFID, and other disordered eating difficulties.
Therapy supplies a place to work on regaining confidence in balanced eating, rebuilding the relationship with body and trusting self, as well as your support system to make change. Major parts of therapeutic work focus around motivation for change and actively engaging in directives and skills to support change in and outside the therapy office. I often introduce CBT, as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), as well as Intuitive Eating and Body Image interventions while working with individuals.
Art Therapy and Clinical Counseling
Counseling supplies a safe place to discuss life changes, stressors, as well as support growth and love within self. By engaging in talk therapy, clients are able to learn and discuss feelings, problem solve, and practice skills to make changes in your life.
Art Therapy supplies the same support as talk therapy, however using art materials offers a different language to increase understanding of needs and using skills. Many individuals think that art therapy 'is for children' or state 'i can't draw'. It is important to remember that creating art is an outlet and sometimes our feelings aren't great, therefore out art won't look 'pretty' either.
About Me and My Approach
Welcome! My name is Nicole and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Art Therapist. I recently moved to Wilmington, NC in March of 2019.
I started Therapeutic Arts and Counseling in 2015 in Newington, CT as a solo practitioner. At the time, Therapeutic A&C was a small practice, as I held a full time position as the Assistant Program Director at Walden Behavioral Care.
Relocating to the beach was a dream of mine and after reading a Nicholas Sparks book, I decided to take the plunge.
My approach is based in Evidenced Based Practices, including: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Based Therapy, Mindfulness Practice, as well as Therapeutic use of art materials.
I am known to use humor within my practice while pairing reflective listening and empathy within sessions. I focus on making sure sessions are personalized care for clients within my office space or on Telehealth (online therapy).
